Episode 6: Corbett Nye: Living with ADHD

Today I am going to be talking about ADHD - a lot of kids and even adults are diagnosed with ADHD and there are so many medications that are prescribed to treat it.

My guest today, is my very own son, who has been diagnosed with ADHD. I am going to be telling you my story about having a son with ADHD and he will also be sharing his experience as a child and adult with ADHD.

Corbett Nye is a 28-year-old living in Providence, RI. Despite an ADHD diagnosis he received his undergraduate degree in English at UMass Dartmouth and continued on to obtain an MBA. His passions include finance, sports, and writing.

In today’s episode, I share how I’ve always thought medicating a child because they can’t sit still was just wrong. But hearing Corbett tell his story puts it into a different perspective for me. He shares the different effects and benefits that he got from taking medication as an adult, how it’s helped him, and how his life has completely changed since he started on it.

We talk about how parents can understand their child with ADHD better, what their child might be feeling light, thinking, and how they perceive the world differently.

Corbett gives us some awesome advice, and that is to put some boundaries in place for your child. As someone with ADHD, having boundaries, and planning for the future could be so beneficial to them. They might not like at the time, but they will be grateful for it when they are older!
